A delegation of five members from Harvard University and the PMO (Prime Minister's Office) recently visited Taxes Zone-Cumilla.
Dr. Malcolm Frederick McPherson, Senior Fellow in Development at the Ash Center for Democratic Governance & Innovation at Harvard University, led the group.
Other members included Dr. Jay Keith Rosengard, Adjunct Lecturer of Public Policy at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, Ms. Jessica Ruth Creighton, Program Director of Research at the City Leadership Initiative at the Bloomberg Center for Cities at Harvard University, Ms. Sarzah Yeasmin, Project Manager of the Bangladesh Public Service Project at the Ash Center for Democratic Governance & Innovation at Harvard University, and Mr. Md. Ashraful Alam, Deputy Director of the Governance Unit at the PMO.
Upon their arrival, the delegation was greeted with a warm reception from the Commissioner of Taxes Zone-Cumilla, Khandokar Khurshid Kamal. Additional Commissioner Ms. Shamina Islam, Joint Commissioner Farzana Nazneen, and other officials were also present.
After an exclusive discussion with the delegation, Mr. Kamal took them to the Zone's conference room for a view exchange session. A presentation containing three parts, "Introduction of Income Tax Department," "Revenue Mobilization," and "Challenges," was displayed.
The presentation was steered by Deputy Commissioner Mr. Rashed Reza in association with Deputy Commissioner Mr. Shariful Islam and Mr. Kripa Shindhu Das. Following the session, the Commissioner thanked the delegation for their visit. The delegation was then taken to the Bangabandhu Corner, where they paid their respects to the Founding Father of the Nation and left some remarks in a comment book. The visit would pave way to build further relationship with a prestigious university like Harvard could potentially open up new opportunities for the officers in the future, such as research collaborations or training partnerships.
